Here at Mila we take your privacy very seriously. Our app is designed to keep your privacy in mind so you can sit back, relax and focus on building meaningful connections with people who are compatible with you.

Welcome to Mila's Privacy Policy (“Policy”). This Privacy Policy applies to our website, app, events and other services offered by Mila. This policy explains what information you share with us, how we collect information while you use our mobile application (“App”), why we collect that information, and how that information is used to curate your matches. This policy further reviews how we store, process, protect and share your data. This policy should be read along with our App’s terms of use.  By downloading and using the Mila App, you agree and provide consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as outlined in this Privacy Policy. 1. Information We Collect

In order to curate meaningful matches for you we ask you to register and create an account with us. To create an account on our App, you provide us with your login credentials such as phone number, email, first and last name, gender, date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth.

For the App to function and show you suggested matches, you will also provide access to your location while using the App. The location will automatically update in our app if you change locations.

Upon completion of your profile, you will be able to provide us other personal and lifestyle details and photographs of yourself. In order to associate pictures or videos to your profile, you may allow us to access your camera or photo album. You can also link your Mila Account with your social media accounts such as Facebook and Instagram. In doing so, you will also provide us your login information, friends list and photographs for those social media accounts.

In the detailed profile section of our app you may choose to provide us information that may be considered “special” or “sensitive” in certain jurisdictions. Ethnicity and Religion are a few examples. Upon sharing that information, you consent to our processing of the information.

The App also captures your preferences on the type of people that would appeal to you.

You have complete control on your user profile and can edit that information at any time by logging into Mila. The only information that cannot be updated is your email, phone number, date of birth, place of birth and time of birth which are required to calculate the compatibility details. If any of that data needs to be corrected, please refer to our App’s terms of use.

The information collected is used to verify that our users are genuine and prevent robots or spam from creating accounts on our App. Registration information such as first name, age and other profile details may be visible to our app users.

You may provide us or our payment processing provider with information such as your debit or credit card number when you subscribe to a paid service offered on the Mila App.

Additionally, we also collect information about you when you register to participate in our focus groups, surveys, events and promotions or contact our customer care team. 

Mila also collects information generated as you use our services, for example access logs, as well as information from third parties, like when you access our services through a social media account. When you are using our App, we collect information about the features that you use, how you use the features and the devices you use to access our app. We track your activity (date and time you log in, features used etc.) in addition to the advertising links you may click on. Your communication with other users on our app is collected.

With your permission, Mila is able to collect your precise geolocation in order to match you with other users of our App. Such data can be collected through GPS, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connections depending on the device you use.

We collect information about the device you use to log into our Mila app such as the hardware and software details including IP address, device ID, operating system, time zones, app settings, app crashes, wireless service provider, signal strength, advertising IDs such as Google’s AAID and Apple’s IDFA. We also collect information that uniquely identifies your device such as IMEI/UDID.

We may use cookies, beacons etc. to recognize you/your device in order to authenticate you, remember your preferences to optimize your experience on our app. We may also you those technologies to track traffic on our app and measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.

2. How we use the collected information

The primary goal of using your information is to innovate, deliver and improve our services. Your safety is of utmost importance to us and the information is used to keep you safe as well as provide advertising and information that may be useful to you. We use the collected information to administer your account, connect you with fellow users on our Mila App in a consistent experience across devices, provide relevant ads and services as well as improve our services while remaining compliant with the law and minimizing fraud.

  • We collect information to examine your profile, your actions, and preferences to curate meaningful connections to you as well as advocate you to others.

Collect information to ensure a consistent experience across your devices:

  • We link the various devices you use so that you can enjoy a consistent experience of our services across all devices by using partial or full IP address, browser version etc. to help identify your devices and link them.

Collect information to dole out relevant services and advertising:

  • Conduct contests, sweepstakes, or other offers

  • Display and track content and advertising tailored to your interests on our app

  • Communicate with you about products or services that we think may be of interest to you by email, phone or social media

Collect information to improve our existing services and/or develop new ones:

  • Conduct surveys and focus groups

  • Analyze users’ behavior to improve our services and content

Collect information to detect and prevent illegal activities such as fraud:

  • Address ongoing or alleged misbehavior on and off-platform

  • Retain data related to fraudulent activities to prevent against recurrences

3. How We Share Information

Mila's goal is to help you forge authentic and meaningful connections, and since our goal is to help you make meaningful connections, the main sharing of information is, with other users. We also share some users’ information with service providers and partners who assist us in operating our business and, in some cases, legal authorities. See below for details about how your information is shared with others.

 

Share information with other users

  • You share information with other users on our Mila App when you willingly reveal information on the service (including your public profile).

  • Please be careful with your data and make sure that the material you post is something that you are comfortable with public viewing, because once you share it, neither you nor we can control what others do with your information.

Share information with our service providers and partners

  • To help us run and develop our services, we use third parties. These third parties assist us with various tasks, including hosting and management of data analytics, customer service advertising, processing of payments and security operations.

  • We may also share data with partners who distribute and help us advertise our services.

  • Prior to engaging any service provider or collaborating with any partner, we follow a stringent screening process. Strict confidentiality commitments must be agreed to by all our service providers and partners.

 

Share information for corporate transactions

  • We may move your data in the event that we are included, regardless of whether in entire or to some extent, in a consolidation, deal, procurement, divestiture, rebuilding, revamping, disintegration, insolvency or other difference in proprietorship or control.

Uninstall:

  • You can stop all data collection by an app by uninstalling it utilizing the standard uninstall process for your device. In the event that you uninstall the app from your mobile device, the unique identifier associated with your device will continue to be stored. If you re-install the application on the same mobile device, we will be able to re-associate this identifier to your previous transactions, activities and history on the Mila App.

 

6. Residents of California

  • Please make sure you log out of your Account after use as you never know who may stumble onto your Account!

  • Please don't share your social media password with anyone else!

  • Change your social media password periodically.

 

We may suspend your utilization of all or part of the services without notice in the event that we associate or recognize any breach of security. On the off chance that you believe that your record or data is not secure, please notify us immediately.

 

WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ANY REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WITH RESPECT TO ANY BREACHES OF SECURITY, DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE, OR ANY LOSS OR UNAUTHORISED USE OF YOUR REGISTRATION INFORMATION OR OTHER DATA.

8. How Long We Retain Your Information

We have the right to retain any personal information for only as long as required to fulfill the identified purposes for which it was collected, and for a reasonable time thereafter, or as required by law. To protect the safety and security of our users on and off our services, we implement a safety retention window of twelve months following account deletion. During this period, account information will be retained although the account will of course not be visible on the services anymore. We assume no obligation or guarantee to archive any information and do not warrant that any archived information will later be made available to you. 

In practice, we erase or anonymize your information upon deletion of your account (following the safety retention window) or after two years of continuous inactivity, except if:

  1. We must keep it to comply with applicable law (for instance, some “traffic data” is kept for one year to comply with statutory data retention obligations);

  2. We must keep it to evidence our compliance with applicable law (for instance, records of consents to our Terms, Privacy Policy and other similar consents are kept for five years);

  3. There is an outstanding issue, claim or dispute requiring us to keep the relevant information until it is resolved; or

  4. The information must be kept for our legitimate business interests, such as fraud prevention and enhancing users' safety and security. For example, information may need to be kept to prevent a user who was banned for unsafe behavior or security incidents from opening a new account.

 

Keep in mind that even though our systems are designed to according to the above guidelines, we cannot promise that all data will be deleted within a specific timeframe due to technical constraints.

 

Remember that despite the fact that our frameworks are intended to carry out data deletion processes as indicated by the above rules, we cannot guarantee that all information will be erased inside a particular time period because of technical constraints.

 

You may deactivate your Mila Account at any time by accessing “Settings” and selecting deactivate account or by emailing our support team at support@milaapp.com. After your account has been deactivated and you have logged out of the app, your profile will no longer be visible to other users. If you do not reactivate your Mila account within sixty (60) days, your account will be permanently terminated and closed but some information may remain in our backup copies and logs for up to one (1) year. 

Messages, text, comments and certain other information sent to users on our app may remain on the Mila App after you deactivate your account.

9. Children's Privacy

Although we want our app to be enjoyed by everyone, our services are restricted to users who are 18 years of age or older. Sorry kids, we know Mila is cool and fun, but you'll have to come back when you're old enough! We do not permit users under the age of 18 on our app and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you suspect that a user is under the age of 18, please contact us using the Report functionality in the Mila App or by emailing us at support@milaapp.com

10. Privacy Policy Changes

As Mila is always innovating, looking for new and novel ways to help you forge authentic and meaningful connections, this policy may change over time. We will notify you before any material changes take effect to provide you adequate time to review the changes. By continuing to access or use the App after those changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Privacy Policy.

11. Jurisdiction

Your access to the App, as well as this Privacy Policy are governed and interpreted by the laws of the State of New Jersey, other than such laws, rules, regulations and case law that would result in the application of the laws of a jurisdiction other than the State of New Jersey. By using the App, you are consenting to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the United States and the State of New Jersey. You agree that you will not file or participate in a class action against us. In the event there is a discrepancy between this English language version and any translated copies of the Policy, the English version shall prevail.
